The High Court of Cassation and Justice rendered an essential decision yesterday in the case known as "Colectiv 2," which concerns potential criminal acts related to the infection of victims of the 2015 fire in Romanian hospitals and their delayed transfer to foreign hospitals.
As a consequence of this decision, the criminal investigation will be reopened, and the Prosecutor's Office will reanalyze the evidence gathered to investigate potential crimes committed in connection with nosocomial infections and their effects on the victims, as well as the delayed transfer of fire victims to hospitals abroad. Additionally, investigative authorities may proceed to gather new evidence to clarify the facts of the case.
The team that managed the case before the High Court for some of the victims consisted of Alexandru Bălbărău, a lawyer specializing in criminal law, and a team from Berechet Rusu Hiriț, which included Ana-Maria Barbareso, coordinated by Mădălina Berechet, both lawyers specialized in medical malpractice, international human rights protection, and proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights.
